In my many years of practice, I have seen clients who were affected by one or more of the following disorders obtain complete or near-complete relief from their symptoms. Obviously, in some cases, the disorder may not be caused by misalignment and there may be other factors such as lifestyle, diet, genetic predisposition, etc.

Human Spine

Cervical Vertebrae

Cervical Vertebrae

Migraine / Pressure headaches
Migraine & Pressure headaches are commonly associated with misalignment of the cervical vertebrae. Migraine in particular is most often caused by misalignment of the Occiput & Atlas vertebrae. Soreness in the muscle at the Occipital area is a common indicator of this disorder and should be attended to as soon as possible.

This misalignment appears to put pressure on the veins which are the drainage system for the head. In my opinion this reduces the flow of used fluids out of the head causing an excess to build up inside the skull and puts an abnormal pressure on the brain and on the cranial nerves. This abnormal pressure causes many different kinds of disorder to the head and brain.

Catherine, a client of mine, told me recently both herself and her younger brother have not had a migraine since attending me 15 years ago. They had both been constant migraine sufferers.

Sinus
Blocked sinus can be a very painful & uncomfortable condition.  Relief is usually instantaneous where misalignment is the cause. Many clients who suffered from blocked sinus have reported years of relief following correction of the misalignment over the course of a few visits to me.

Stress
Stress is the inability to deal calmly with the normal situations that occur in our lives.

This inability can lose us our jobs, our relationships or our capacity to run our businesses successfully and can prevent us from enjoying our family, our sport, our leisure or the many other good things in life.

It is my belief that the ability to make important decisions is severely impaired where people are suffering from stress as their capacity to think clearly is diminished.

Stress is one of the major problems that responds well to work in the cervical area.
Pressure build up on the brain appears to cause stress. Quite often, a spongy feeling to the skin outside the skull will indicate to me that this is the problem.

Dizziness
Dizziness can, in certain circumstances be caused by misalignment of the upper cervical vertebrae and where this is the cause, it responds well to Spinology. However, dizziness can have other more sinister causes. Where there is any suspicion that dizziness is not caused by misalignment of the cervical vertebrae, my advice is always to consult one’s GP.

Brendan, a construction worker, visited me complaining of dizziness and a sore back following a fall at work. Following x-rays and other diagnostic procedures, the physiotherapist at his local hospital advised him to stay off work and to return a month later as he was too sore to receive treatment. In the meantime, he visited me and over the course of a few sessions, the affected vertebra was restored to its normal range of movement and the dizziness disappeared.

Neuralgia
Neuralgia is basically a nerve pain usually associated with the jaw which can be caused by misalignment of the cervical vertebrae.

Mary, a teacher, told me that she had been suffering from face and jaw pain for the previous two months. She had been receiving specialist treatment for it with no improvement in her condition. I worked on her upper cervical misalignments and she obtained immediate relief. Indeed, after a few sessions all her pain was gone.

Tinnitus
Tinnitus is a continual noise in the ear which can manifest itself as ringing, humming, hissing or buzzing. In some cases the noise will diminish or go away completely after work on the upper cervical misalignments. However, in some cases there is no change in the noise levels, indicating that the cause is other than the misalignment of the vertebrae.

Whiplash
Whiplash occurs when the facet joints of the cervical or upper thoracic spine are stretched beyond their normal range of movement by a force which is greater than the muscles of the joints can absorb. It is not necessary to be in a car accident to get a whiplash injury. It can be caused in any contact sport or by a jolt from any sudden unexpected movement.

Many of the whiplash victims who have visited me have healed up quickly following the restoration of mobility to the affected joints. It is my belief that whiplash victims should not suffer for years after an injury and that with timely intervention their symptoms should heal up in a few weeks.

Pimples & Rashes on the face or neck.
Pimples and rashes often diminish or disappear after a few sessions of spinology on the cervical vertebrae. My view is that this complaint is probably caused by the restriction to the flow of nerve energy to the area in question and the body is unable to clear the disorder.

The first time Annette attended me, I noticed a rash on her chin which she informed me had been present for a few months. Having worked on her upper cervical vertebrae over the course of several visits, the rash disappeared.

Bad Temper - Getting unreasonably upset
It is hard to believe that having a bad temper is a physical disorder but in many cases I have found it to be true. In my years of practice working with people I have often noted the improvement in them after a few sessions of cervical work.

The expressions on their faces changed, they looked happier and when questioned they admitted to being in better form. It is my belief that pressure on the blood vessels and nerves in the head causes many different problems, one of which can be bad temper.

Inability to move things on
This is when we get ‘stuck in a rut’. The relationship, job, business or sport is just not the same any more, it’s no fun, or you just think ‘why bother?’
These negative feelings are often caused by the same pressure in the head I have outlined above.  It can be difficult to get oneself out of this situation. Having the cervical vertebrae cleared can change the way one looks at life and one’s place in it.  I have seen these changes occur many, many times during my years in practice.

Upper thoracic vertebrae

Upper thoracic vertebrae

Whiplash
Whiplash can extend down the spine from the neck to the upper thoracic vertebrae and can be the site of the misalignments which cause the disorders listed below. See also the paragraph on whiplash above.

Frozen shoulder
Frozen Shoulder appears to be caused by a long term misalignment of the C7,T1 or T2 vertebrae.  The muscles get sore from being constantly contracted trying to pull the vertebrae back into their correct position and the nerves going to the shoulder are interfered with by the misaligned vertebrae. The communications on the nerve from the brain to the shoulder also appear to be interfered with by the constantly contracted muscle.  All of the above causes pain and a lack of mobility to the shoulder.

When the misalignment is corrected and the muscle is massaged to encourage blood flow to the area, the frozen shoulder heals up.  Misalignments in this area can cause puffiness or swelling at the top of the spine and can lead to an unsightly ‘hump’ which is sometimes called ‘The Dowager’s Hump’.

Tennis elbow
There is a condition easily mis-diagnosed as ‘tennis elbow’ that is really a nerve pain caused by misalignment of the C7, T1 or T2 vertebrae, which interferes with the nerve root going to the elbow. This is sometimes called a ‘pinched’ or ‘trapped’ nerve. The pain from this condition can be very severe but it usually clears up when the misalignments are corrected.

Shoulder, Arm, Hand or Fingers pain
Shoulder, Arm, Hand or Fingers pain or numbness usually has the same cause as ‘tennis elbow’ (above), except it is a different group of nerves which are affected. These misalignments can be caused during any event in which a force or jolt is applied to the affected area.
This can be in the course of sport, heavy lifts or falls etc. It occurs when a force is applied to the spinal joints which is greater than that which muscles of the joints can absorb.  This ‘pulls’ the muscles of the joint which do not then revert back to within their normal range of movement.

Loss of power to Shoulder, Arm Hand or Fingers
Loss of power appears to have the same cause as in the previous section except it is again a different group of nerves which is affected. Once the misalignments are cleared, the body heals itself and the pain goes away.

Chronic Fatigue
This section concerns being unusually tired (‘dragging’ oneself around all day, coming in from work, sitting down in the chair and falling asleep) or going to bed tired and not deriving the full benefit of a night’s sleep.

This kind of chronic tiredness appears to be caused by vertebral misalignments in the T3, T4, & T5 area. My theory is that the misalignments interfere with the flow of nerve energy between the brain and lungs and that this causes the lungs to be unable to function correctly. It may be that they are unable to deposit the required amount of oxygen into the blood and this is the cause of the tiredness.

I find that if I can clear the misalignments in this area of the spine, in most cases, energy levels will increase dramatically. It usually takes a few sessions for the joints to hold their adjustments but the energy level increase can be immediate.

Asthma & Croup
Asthma is a respiratory disorder characterised by difficulty in breathing. Croup is a throat condition, characterised by a hoarse cough and laboured breathing.

Both of these conditions appear to have their cause in the upper thoracic area. It appears to be the nerves in the area of the throat and lungs that are affected.

When the misalignments in the area are removed, clearing the nerve pathways, the response is instant in most clients, especially in children.

Many years ago a seven year old boy, Patrick, visited me with his mother, Marie. Patrick was using two inhalers four times a day and needed tablets at night for a serious asthmatic condition. Following the first session of Spinology, he reduced his medication to one inhaler occasionally and no tablets. I saw him at that time for a few sessions and on and off over the next few years. He is now an adult and comes for a visit once in a while if he feels he needs it.

I did a session on John; a seven year old Wexford boy whose mother, Angela, told me had suffered with croup and asthma since he was three weeks old. She said she “had to bring him into the hospital a few times and we nearly lost him” and mentioned that “all the X-rays showed was a shadow on his lung”.
Some years later I met Angela and she told me that for the three days following his visit, he had coughed up a black tar-like substance. I believe this is what was seen in the x-ray as a shadow on his lung. She also mentioned that 18 months later he got the ‘all-clear’ from the hospital for his asthma and croup.
This is the stuff of miracles and I will never forget it!

Mid & Lower Thoracic Vertebrae

Mid & Lower Thoracic Vertebrae

Chest pain, Breast and underarm pain
Chest pain will sometimes be caused by misalignments in the mid thoracic area. It can be painful to take a deep breath or one might have breastbone pain or soreness in the chest area. In some cases, the misalignments will cause an irregular heartbeat. Indeed, I suffered from this particular disorder myself some time ago. Following a visit to a colleague, the problem disappeared and has not returned since.

If you have had chest pains checked out by the doctor and there was no apparent medical cause, I would advise having one’s spine checked by a Spinologist.

Soreness in the breasts and under the arms can be caused by congestion of the muscles. When the mid-thoracic vertebrae are out of alignment they appear to cause distortion to the whole ribcage including the area where the ribs meet the breastbone.
The muscles in the chest area try to correct the distortion and they become congested and painful. Some women report that their breasts have become extremely sore and in such cases I recommend that they seek massage to the affected area. The combination of clearing the misalignments and massage enables the body to heal itself and the soreness fades away. I have a theory that this lack of flow of body fluids and nerve energy can lead to breast cancer.  I have no proof of this but I believe that where the flow of fluids and energy to an area is inhibited, then that area may deteriorate. Cancer would be the ultimate soft tissue deterioration.

Heartburn, Indigestion & Upset Stomach
When heartburn occurs, most people take antacid tablets or liquid. However, if the heartburn persists or is severe I would strongly recommend a visit to a Spinologist. If the misalignments in the mid thoracic area are corrected, the heartburn will usually recede gradually.
This disorder appears to be caused by interference to nerve energy to the affected area. This in turn causes a chemical imbalance and the acids are not neutralised. Indigestion, Flatulence and Stomach upset can also be caused by misalignments in the lower thoracic area.
My theory is that if the chemical balance in an area is not correct, some disorder of that or related areas will occur eventually. This applies to all areas of the body including all of the main organs.

Constipation and Irritable Bowel
Constipation usually resolves itself when the misalignment of the lower thoracic vertebrae is corrected. The correction restores the flow of nerve energy and the body’s systems in that area can once again function correctly.

I believe that constipation and irritable bowel syndrome can be caused by long term misalignment causing restriction to the flow of nerve energy. The brain is then unable to maintain the necessary chemical balance required for good health in the area controlled by the affected nerve root.

Infertility & Miscarriage
Infertility and miscarriage are disorders which are not usually associated with the spine.

Many ladies attending me have indicated that they have been unable to conceive. I have noticed over the course of my years in practice that there is an area of misalignment to their lower thoracic spine which is common to most. I have been pleasantly surprised by the high proportion of these ladies who have become pregnant shortly after having the misalignment corrected.

I have recently been told by a client of mine, Declan, that his wife is now pregnant. They visited me about two months ago for just one visit in the hope that Spinology would help her conceive. They had been hoping for a baby since they got married eighteen months ago and I was delighted to hear their good news.

The most likely explanation is that the balance of the female hormone, oestrogen was incorrect and when I removed the interference to the nerve supply the body restored the balance and the reproductive organs functioned normally.

A Wexford lady, Monica, visited me for a few sessions and in the course of conversation I discovered she had had four miscarriages in recent times. She came back two years later and told me she had conceived shortly afterwards and had a baby boy.

Lumbar Vertibrae

Lumbar Vertibrae

Low Back Pain
Low back pain is probably the most common of all back problems. The most common cause of low back pain is the misalignment of the facet or spinal joints at L5 and S1. This is the pair of joints closest to where the spine joins the sacrum or pelvis and as such is subjected to the greatest pressure. The facet joints are complete joints, i.e. they have a joint capsule and are encapsulated in muscle.

When a joint is subjected to a force that the muscles of that joint are unable to absorb, the muscles are torn and the joint is pulled beyond its normal range of movement. The body always tries to heal itself so other muscles in the area contract to try to pull the damaged joint back to within its normal range. If the joint is pulled back, all is well and the area heals up. However, when the other muscles are unable to correct the problem they remain contracted.

When a muscle contracts it produces a waste product which is made up mostly of lactic acid. In a continuously contracted muscle the lactic acid build up increases and the muscle becomes hard and painful as blood flow becomes more and more restricted. In some severe cases the muscles go into spasm and sufferer can adopt a crooked or hunched appearance.

When the misalignment is corrected the muscles can relax and the blood can flush out the lactic acid. I find that deep muscle massage is very useful in helping the body to speed up the healing process.

Sciatica. Leg Pain
Sciatica or leg pain is usually caused by misalignment of the vertebrae at L5 and S1.
The misalignment alters the environment of the nerves going down the leg causing pain. The location of the pain is dependent on which nerves are the most affected. This is sometimes called a pinched or trapped nerve.
I have discovered over the years that leg pain can be generated in the constantly contracted muscle of the buttock or hip. Similar to cases of low back pain, above, in a continuously contracted muscle the lactic acid build up increases and the muscle becomes hard and painful as blood flow becomes more and more restricted.

Another cause of sciatica is a ruptured spinal disc. In a fairly small percentage of low back pain cases, sciatica is caused by a disc which has bulged and ruptured.  The ruptured disc pressing on the spinal cord or nerve root is the problem. It is my belief that this bulge occurs after prolonged misalignment to the facet joints causing unequal pressures on the disc. This is when an operation is required and a good surgeon operating with the benefit of a correct diagnosis can perform miracles. Most people over forty will have bulging discs but will not be in any pain from them.

Buttock & Hip pain
The pain in hips and buttocks is as described in the low back pain section, above. If the body is unable to rid itself of this problem it will get progressively worse. I have worked on people where the congestion of the constantly contracted muscle in the buttocks and hips appears to have been the cause of other disorders of the legs.
I believe that this congestion around the hip sockets can cause arthritis to set into the hips later in life because of the radically diminished blood flow and nerve energy supply. After all, why would a person get arthritis in one hip and not in the other?

Leg Cramps
The congestion in the muscles of the buttocks and hips restricts the blood and nerve energy flow down the legs and cramps is one of the disorders it appears to cause.

Recurring Hamstring Injury
Hamstring Injury is an injury to the muscle/tendon cluster at the back of the thigh. When the injury keeps recurring it often appears to be because of misalignment of the low back facet joints. The subsequent congestion of the buttock and hip muscles interferes with the nerve energy and blood supply going to the hamstring muscle. The brain is then not in full communication with the hamstring muscle and is unable to heal it completely, leaving it more prone to a recurring injury. In my experience, low back misalignment is extremely common among clients who complain of recurring hamstring problems.

Period Pain, Irregular and Heavy Periods
Period pain is not something one would associate with a bad back but over the years in practice I have had many women report great improvements in this area when they had the misalignment corrected in their low backs.

Recurring Infections
Chest and kidney infections appear to be the most common types of recurring infections and they both respond very well to clearing misalignments of the spine in their respective areas.

I believe the restriction to the nerve energy caused by the misalignment of the facet joints is responsible for the body being unable to heal the infection.

Other Disorders
Over the years I have seen other disorders improve or go away altogether…. bedwetting in a twelve year old girl….knee pain….taste, smell and eyesight disorders….disruptive behaviour in a thirteen year old boy….blood pressure….nose bleeds….breathing difficulties….sleeping disorders….snoring….hot or cold feet….erectile dysfunction and various others problems and disorders.
As I said earlier it is amazing how the body can heal itself when the restriction to the flow of nerve energy is removed.

It is my belief that there should be a practitioner of these therapies attached to all General Practitioners practices. In an ideal world whatever is best for the patient should be the most important consideration.
A great number of medical practitioners have very little knowledge of what we do or why we do it but they reject it anyway. It would make a lot more sense to inform themselves of it, and embrace new ideas.  There is often a simple answer to a problem which does not involve more chemicals.

I must again stress that what I describe above are my findings , my experiences and my theories.  I have gathered and developed them from interaction with my clients during many years of practice.
They are not the teachings of Spinology.
